The Establishment of Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku
Mr. Tatsuo Uchida was born in Davao City in 1928. He is the one of the advisers of Japan Philippine Volunteer Association (JPVA). Upon the death of his wife, Mrs. Ayako Uchida, on March 4, 1999, he consulted Rev. Masataka Ajiro, born in 1939, who also happened to be the JPVA President – about how Mrs. Uchida’s memories and wishes for Davao City would be realized.
Both Mr. Uchida and Mr. Ajiro decided to help establish a college of the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai, yearning to make a new bridge between Japan and the Philippines towards the 21st century.
Mr. Uchida funded the construction of the college building. Rev. Ajiro likewise helped in crafting the school’s philosophy and basic principle for Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku (MKD). The opening of MKD served as a pinnacle of the JPVA activities and the growth of PNJK’s educational services.
